Wildlife and nature are abundant at Lake Mackenzie. In addition to
the fish that can be found in the Lake,
mule deer, bobcat, aoudad sheep, raccoon, possum, porcupine, wild turkeys, quail, pheasant, ducks, geese, bald
eagles, and many other birds and mammals can be seen on lake property.
Nature trails are a favorite of many of the Lake Mackenzie visitors.
Rock enthusiasts can find many different formations and specimens to
study and admire.
During 1997 Rick Day, an Andrews ISD teacher, discovered and unearthed a
fossilized ancient crocodile like creature on Lake Mackenzie Property. The
fossil is believed to be that of a
Phytosaur.
