Equus Scotti is an extinct horse from the Pleistocene era. This fossil was discovered on Lake property by a group of home schooled science children that were on a science field trip in May of 2008. In addition, in the following eleven months, a total of 5 Equus Scotti have been found in the area. The home schooled children and their parents (under the advisement of geological professionals) have completed all the excavations, preservation, and research work regarding these discovered fossils. The Equus Scotti Horse is on display along with other fossils in the lake marina, Mackenzie Bait & Tackle.General InformationLake Mackenzie is located in Briscoe County, Texas 12 miles northwest of Silverton and 27 miles east of Tulia. It is operated by Mackenzie Municipal Water Authority and was created to furnish water to member cities of Floydada, Lockney, Silverton, and Tulia. It also provides recreation activities for the communities of the surrounding area. THIS ACTION IS TAKEN FOR THE SAFETY OF LAKE GUESTS DUE TO HAZARDS DETECTED AS A RESULT OF THE CURRENT DEPTH OF THE WATER. THIS BAN INCLUDES THE USE OF PERSONAL WATERCRAFT (JET SKIS, ETC.) AND/OR THE PULLING OF A PERSON BEHIND A BOAT OR PERSONAL WATERCRAFT ON A TUBE, INFLATED APPARATUS, OR WATER SKIS.BOAT RAMP # 2 IS CLOSED DUE TO WATER LEVELBOAT RAMP #1 IS STILL OPERATIONAL AND OPEN AND BOATS CAN BE LAUNCHED THERE!
